House Flipping Information - Our Cup Runneth Over

Just five or so years ago, you would have really had to search hard in order to find any worthwhile house flipping information. If you walked into a library or book store and said you were looking for house flipping books, they probably would have looked at you like you were crazy.

But now, thanks to the proliferation of house flipping TV shows, there's no shortage of information. Besides the shows, you can find a number of websites like this one that are devoted to the subject, and there are now many books out that can bring you up to speed on everything that's involved.

Since the TV shows have been most people's introduction to the world of flipping, we'll cover those first. Flip This House airs on the A&E cable network, and currently focuses on the efforts of a few different real estate developers located in Atlanta, San Antonio, TX and New Haven CT. This show is in its third season. As a sidenote, during its first season it covered the flipping exploits of a company called Trademark Properties in South Carolina. Trademark now is featured in a show called The Real Estate Pros shown on TLC cable network, but the subject of the new show seems to have drifted away from flipping.

Not to be confused with Flip This House is Flip That House, which is also on TLC. This show focuses on a different flipper every week. The flippers have varying levels of experience, with some being seasoned pros and others being rank amateurs.

Another show that features a different flipper every week is Property Ladder, also shown on TLC, which stands for The Learning Channel, but maybe they should call it the Flipping Channel :-). The people undertaking the renovations on this show get the benefit of host and experienced flipper Kirsten Kemp's advice, which they frequently choose to ignore.

As far as the books that are currently available, we've had a chance to look over two of them and reviewed them in another article on this site. They are Flipping Confidential by Kirsten Kemp, and Flipping Houses For Dummies from the well known Dummies series. Both books provide a great introduction to the intricacies of the house flipping game.

There are a lot of other books about fixing up houses and reselling them available. We did a search on amazon.com and came up with a bunch, including The Complete Guide to Flipping Properties, Buy It, Fix it, Sell it....Profit, and Flipping Poperties: Generate Instant Cash Profits in Real Estate. There are many more. We haven't looked these over, so can't vouch for their usefulness, but amazon allows customers to review all the products they sell, so you can get some idea of the contents of each book before purchasing.

Finally, there are many websites that offer house flipping information. A quick check using your favorite search engine will turn up many. Have a look around this site for some links to other useful resources on the Internet.
